Author Biographies

Thomas P Miller, University of Arizona

Thomas P. Miller is Professor of English and Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs. He has won awards for teaching, mentoring and leadership from the Humanities Seminars Program, the Graduate and Professional Students Council, the Commission on the Status of Women, and Appointed Professional Advisory Council. He has published five books and over fifty scholarly articles, chapters, and reviews on rhetorical theory and history and the teaching of writing. He received a national award from the Modern Language Association for The Formation of College English Studies: Rhetoric and Belles Lettres in the British Cultural Provinces. The second part of his history of college English appeared in 2011 as The Evolution of College English: Literacy Studies from the Puritans to the Postmoderns.

Adele Leon, University of Arizona

Adele Leon is a PhD student in the Rhetoric, Composition, and the Teaching of English program at the University of Arizona. She holds her MA in English with a concentration in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, and her BA in English from the University of Montevallo. Her research interests include antiracist pedagogies, community engagement, and higher education administrative structure. More specifically, her research explores the re/structuring of writing programs through a liberatory framework and examines the stakeholder-agents in writing program structure. In addition to her work as a PhD student, she teaches service-learning courses through UA’s Wildcat Writers initiative, and leads a Training Practicum for a high school writing center class.
